Indiana Governor Appoints State Police Official to SEARCH Membership

New title

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has appointed Major Robert D. (Rob) Simpson to serve as Indiana’s new representative to the SEARCH Membership Group.

Major Simpson is Assistant Chief of Staff / Communications and Information Systems for the Indiana State Police (ISP). He was appointed to SEARCH effective November 23, 2021.

As A/CS, Major Simpson coordinates all matters regarding information technology and communications for the State Police. He has two divisions under his authority:

  • The Criminal Justice Data Division handles the Indiana Criminal History Repository, the Indiana License to Carry a Handgun Program, the Indiana Data and Communication System (IDACS), and the Indiana Vehicle Crash Records Program.
  • The Communication Division oversees the Regional Dispatch Centers and radio communications.

The previous SEARCH governor-appointee from Indiana was ISP Major Larry C. Jenkins, who served from 2019 until his retirement in August 2021.

SEARCH Members and Staff welcome Major Simpson to the Membership Group.

The SEARCH Membership Group, the governing body of SEARCH, is comprised of one gubernatorial appointee from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories, as well as eight at-large appointees selected by SEARCH’s Chair. This national body of state-level professionals is widely representative of the various disciplines within the justice system, and many are responsible for operational decisions and policymaking concerning the management of criminal justice.
