Virginia State Police Capt. Julia Gunderson is Appointed to SEARCH Membership

New title

SEARCH is pleased to announce the appointment of Virginia State Police Captain Julia M. Gunderson to the SEARCH Membership Group.

Capt. Gunderson is Commander of the Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the VSP. She was appointed to the SEARCH Membership by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin on June 17, 2024.

The CJIS Division serves as the Commonwealth’s criminal history record repository and oversees State operations involving Nlets, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN). CJIS also operates the Civil & Applicant Records Exchange, Sex Offender Registry, Missing Children Information Clearinghouse, Automated Fingerprint Identification System, and the Firearms Transaction Center.

Capt. Gunderson replaces Virginia’s previous SEARCH representative, Major Matthew Patterson, who had served as a SEARCH Member since 2020 and who transitioned to another position within VSP.

SEARCH Members and Staff welcome and congratulate Capt. Gunderson on her appointment.

The SEARCH Membership Group, the governing body of SEARCH, is comprised of one gubernatorial appointee from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories, as well as eight at-large appointees selected by SEARCH’s Chair. This national body of state-level professionals is widely representative of the various disciplines within the justice system, and many are responsible for operational decisions and policymaking concerning the management and sharing of criminal justice information.
