SEARCH Welcomes Vermont Representative to Membership Group
SEARCH is pleased to welcome a new gubernatorial appointee to our Membership Group, representing the State of Vermont: Mr. Christopher Herrick, Deputy Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Mr. Herrick was appointed November 8, 2018, by Vermont Governor Phil Scott. He fills a vacancy from the state following the retirement several years ago of longtime SEARCH Member and Chair Francis (Paco) Aumand III. Mr. Herrick previously served as Director of Vermont Emergency Management and Homeland Security within DPS.
The Vermont DPS is responsible to promote the detection and prevention of crime, to participate in searches for lost and missing persons, and to assist in cases of statewide or local disasters or emergencies. To carry out these responsibilities, the DPS is organized into six divisions: the Vermont State Police, Vermont Emergency Management, Vermont Crime Information Center, Radio Technology Services, Vermont Forensic Laboratory, and the Division of Fire Safety. The SEARCH Membership Group, which governs SEARCH, is comprised of one gubernatorial appointee from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories, as well as eight at-large appointees selected by SEARCH’s Chair. This national body of state-level professionals is widely representative of the various disciplines within the justice system, and many are responsible for operational decisions and policymaking concerning the management of criminal justice information, particularly criminal history information. The Membership Group fosters cooperation and communication among justice system professionals in identifying and implementing solutions to common problems.
