SEARCH is pleased to announce the appointment of Major Michael Buray, Commanding Officer of the Identification & Information Technology Section, New Jersey State Police (NJSP), to the SEARCH Membership Group.
Major Buray was appointed January 17, 2024, by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. The NJSP’s Identification & Information Technology Section provides technological services to the law enforcement community through four major bureaus and units:
- Criminal Justice Records Bureau
- Information Technology Bureau
- Operational Technology & Interoperability Bureau, and
- The State Bureau of Identification.
Major Buray replaces New Jersey’s previous SEARCH Member, Major Kenneth Jones, who served in 2023 before his retirement. SEARCH Members and staff are pleased to welcome Major Buray to the Membership Group.
The SEARCH Membership Group, the governing body of SEARCH, is comprised of one gubernatorial appointee from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories, as well as eight at-large appointees selected by SEARCH’s Chair. This national body of state-level professionals is widely representative of the various disciplines within the justice system, and many are responsible for operational decisions and policymaking concerning the management of criminal justice.
