Utah Governor Appoints Alice Moffat to SEARCH Membership Group
Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has appointed Ms. Alice Moffat to be the state’s representative on the SEARCH Membership Group, effective November 20, 2013.
Ms. Moffat is Division Director of the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) within the Utah Department of Public Safety. The BCI compiles, maintains and disseminates the state’s criminal history records; conducts Brady Act background checks of firearms purchasers; oversees bail enforcement and private investigator licensing; regulates concealed firearms permits; operates the state’s missing persons clearinghouse; and collects, analyzes and issues reports on crime statistics, among other activities.
Ms. Moffat fills a vacancy for Utah on the Membership Group.The SEARCH Membership Group, which governs SEARCH, is comprised of one gubernatorial appointee from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories, as well as eight at-large appointees selected by SEARCH’s Chair. This national body of state-level professionals is widely representative of the various disciplines within the justice system, and many are responsible for operational decisions and policymaking concerning the management of criminal justice information, particularly criminal history information. The Membership Group fosters cooperation and communication among justice system professionals in identifying and implementing solutions to common problems.
