Justice Information Exchange Model (JIEM) Training Classes

Overview Access to JIEM is restricted to those who have been trained and certified to use the Tool. A limited number of on-site JIEM training classes are offered each year. Additional open-registration classes are offered at SEARCH headquarters in Sacramento, California; a current schedule of these open-registration classes is listed below. SEARCH provides this training at no cost to the justice community through funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. However, advance registration is required.

All JIEM training classes are providing instruction in JIEM 4.0, which is based on the Eclipse platform and was released Sept. 25, 2007. Each class is 1 ½ days long. The certification examination is provided on-line and can be taken in conjunction with the training, if desired.

On-site Classes Sites must apply to be considered for on-site training. Because only a limited number of these programs will be offered, preference will be given to locations that are well underway with their integrated justice efforts. The site must have a training facility that is adequately equipped to support the JIEM program. A detailed checklist will be supplied to sites that are selected. Request on-site JIEM training.

Open-Registration Classes JIEM training classes are held on a regular basis in our Sacramento facility. The training that is provided is identical to the on-site training classes. Space is limited to approximately 18 students, and all participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging expenses.

Who Should Attend Justice system representatives working on integrated justice projects at either the city, county, state, regional or federal levels, as well as private industry individuals who seek to facilitate such projects. Public-sector participants are asked to assess their projects to ensure that they are prepared to begin the JIEM project in their jurisdiction. It is recommended that initial planning efforts be underway prior to inception of a JIEM project. Defining project scope, establishing a governance structure with necessary working groups, developing a project mission and vision, as well as identifying a broad-cross section of justice partners to participate on this project, are key components that should be in place, when seeking to begin the JIEM project in your jurisdiction.

Private industry individuals who would like to facilitate JIEM projects in jurisdictions seeking to integrate justice information systems should have some criminal justice background. Criminal justice resources are available to those whose background is limited in this area. Please contact for more information.

Space is limited to 18-20 participants per class and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, with public-sector participants getting priority. Due to demand, the number of representatives per jurisdiction and/or company may be limited.

Inquiries and Confirmation If you are interested in attending, please e-mail complete contact information (name, title, agency, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address) to so that staff may process your request.
