Job Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, manages bank and general ledger reconciliations; performs month-end closings; tracks fixed assets and prepares depreciation schedules; prepares trial balance and expenditure reports on grants and contracts; and prepares financial statements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reconciles all monthly corporate and grant fund bank accounts.
  • Prepares payroll- and cash receipts-related journal transactions in preparation of month-end closing.
  • Maintains computer equipment and furniture inventory database, including tagging new purchases, adding to and deleting from inventory as required by purchases and disposal.
  • Conducts physical inventory twice per year and reconciles cost to general ledger.
  • Prepares depreciation, additions and deletions schedules on fixed assets.
  • Each week, reviews the need for and prepares cash drawdown request from the federal government.
  • Reconciles monthly balance sheet accounts to individual supporting schedules.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements.
  • Prepares monthly expenditure variance report by funding source.
  • Prepares monthly contract invoicing and monitors its payments.
  • Prepares and renews insurance policies maintained by organization relating to liability, commercial, and directors and officers insurances.
  • Maintains general ledger.
  • Mails weekly accounts payable checks.
  • Prepares schedules for the annual audit.
  • Acts as Lead staff for the Finance Department when Director of Finance and Administration is unavailable.
  • Assists on special projects and miscellaneous assignments as requested by Director of Finance and Administration.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Five years or more accounting experience through financial statements and audit; experience in nonprofit agency preferred.

Knowledgeable of general office methods and procedures, basic accounting principles, and familiar with grants and contracts allocation; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and preferably Great Plains Accounting Software. Able to perform financial analysis and budget preparation; strong in reconciliations; experience working with management; detail oriented, meet deadlines, multi-task, flexible; and work under pressure.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Good typing skills are required, along with knowledge of accounting and common software application programs, such as the Microsoft Office suite of products.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A current driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required.

Compensation
$25/hour ($4,333.33/month), commensurate with experience. SEARCH offers an excellent benefits package including retirement, health, dental, disability, vacation and sick leave. Successful completion of a background check is required.

This full-time, non-exempt position is located in Sacramento, California.
